A chiropractic adjustment is the use of a specific force in a precise direction, applied to a joint that is fixed, “locked up” or not moving the way that it should. Adjustments help normalize spinal function, returning bones to a more normal motion or position and decreasing nerve irritation, relieving pain and allowing the body to heal itself. When the 24 bones that protect the spinal cord lose their normal motion and position, delicate nerve tissue can become pulled, squeezed, inflamed, or irritated. If a thorough examination reveals malfunctioning areas of the spine, chiropractic adjustments are recommended t help correct this condition. Chiropractic adjustments are so safe, even newborns, infants, and children can receive chiropractic adjustments to repair the damage caused from the birth process, learning to walk, or other childhood trauma. Years of experience insures that every adjustment is precisely delivered. Every Chiropractic adjustment is tailored to the individual patient. There are many ways to adjust the spine usually the doctor’s hands or a specially designed instrument is used to deliver a highly accurate thrust. After years of training, each doctor has selected a variety of adjusting methods and has become skilled in their delivery. Regardless of the technique used, each chiropractic adjustment is tailored to that patient’s age, size, unique spinal problem, and limitations. Every day, millions of delighted patients choose chiropractic over drugs or surgery, as a common-sense approach to better health. One of the most important, yet undervalued health factors in America is Hydration Hydration, or water intake, is extremely important. Your body uses water for every process and for every cell in your body. As long as “normal” conditions are maintained inside your body, the cells of the body continue to live and function properly. However, an interruption or disturbance of proper hydration will lead to dysfunction. Extreme dysfunction leads to death; moderate dysfunction leads to sickness.(1) Every time your cells use energy, there are waste products; i.e. “garbage”. Your cells dump the waste outside their cell membranes into the fluid surrounding your tissues. The waste would accumulate and poison your cells if the body did not remove the “garbage” through the lymphatic system. The lymphatic system can be described as a barge system which works on water pressure in channels called lymph vessels. Every time your muscles contract they help to “push the barge along the water ways”. The “garbage” is transported from the fluid surrounding your tissues and eventually to the blood. The lymph drains into the blood and is eventually filtered by the spleen, liver, and kidneys and the waste is eliminated. The removal of the waste is an essential function, without which we would die within about 24 hours. Because the elimination of waste is so important your body processes the waste out of your blood before your body will store any “surplus” water inside your joints and cells. In fact, the body will draw water out of your joints and cells in order to process the “garbage” to ensure this removal. Your body can dehydrate quickly from using the available water inside your body to filter out waste and process chemicals and toxins from your diet and environment. Dehydration can cause muscle aches, muscle spasms, dizziness, feelings of hunger, sleepiness, and headaches among other symptoms. By the time you feel thirsty, you are already dehydrated, even if you don’t have noticeable symptoms. To stay adequately hydrated, your body needs between 48 and 64 ounces for normal daily activities. When engaging in strenuous exercise, you need to intake more water. The amount of water you should drink to accommodate fitness demands on your body can be as much as half of your total weight in ounces of water. For example: if you weigh 150 pounds, you will need 75 ounces of water per day for adequate hydration when engaging in strenuous exercise. Hydration may be difficult to achieve, but your body will thank you will good health. An often overlooked cause of headaches is the misalignment or mal-position of the spinal column in the neck and upper back. When bones of the neck and upper back lose their normal position, loss of full motion usually results; causing sensitive nerves and blood vessels to the head to be affected. When spinal nerves and connected tissues are stretched or irritated, they can produce dull, achy, or throbbing headaches. Aspirin and medications may cover up these warning signs but do not correct the underlying structural cause of these types of headaches. Many people experience headache relief through chiropractic adjustments, with no side effects. If a thorough examination reveals reduced range of motion, loss of normal spinal curve, or mechanical restrictions; chiropractic care should be considered. After a complete explanation, you'll receive a care program designed for your unique spinal problem. Because headaches are so common, some people think that getting a headache is just a normal part of life! Headaches are NOT normal in everyday life; they are a sign that something is wrong. Stress, toxic fumes, certain foods, preservatives, and alcohol are also common culprits. Specific chiropractic adjustments can help correct spinal joint dysfunction created by the various chemical, emotional, and physical stresses in our lives. Every patient responds differently; but many patients report immediate headache relief. Others find that the correction of their spinal condition takes longer because their problem has existed undetected for many years. If you are experiencing headaches, you may benefit from the drug-free results millions have enjoyed by consulting a chiropractic doctor. Nicknames are sometimes cute and acceptable among close friends; but you may not want all of your acquaintances to call you “Lucky” or “PeeWee”; particularly not in a professional setting. Nicknames have found their way into chiropractic as well. The fact is that during chiropractic adjustments there is often a sound which occurs during the movement of a joint. Sometimes this sound is referred to as a “snap”, “crack”, or “pop”. These are nicknames given to the audible change in pressure within the joint that is being moved. This sound is so common that chiropractors and patients alike have embraced and even welcomed it as part of the adjustment; but the joint does not always make an audible expression and movement can be achieved silently as well. Medical doctors, osteopaths, and even physical therapists may manipulate the spine; however, chiropractors are specialists who focus on finding and removing subluxation which is also called misalignment and mal-position. Chiropractors adjust to realign spinal subluxation in order to achieve better nerve function and to increase motion in the joints. Getting “cracked” can be part of that process; but getting your spine adjusted is far more important than hearing a sound. See your chiropractor today. Going to a chiropractor only when you feel pain really is like stopping for a train only when you hear a whistle. Pain is the messenger which usually signals a deeper issue such as inflammation, dysfunction, or disease. Most people know that chiropractors can work wonders with pain, however being healthy is much more than not feeling pain. Health can be described as the absence of pain, but is actually the maintenance of homeostasis or in other words, the body is working with everything functioning together to express health. The body can only function at 100% if ALL of your nerves are sending the messages that they should. Pain is often the end result of dysfunction. Chiropractic focuses on finding and removing nerve interference caused by the spine shifting out of place. The body may have trouble working correctly far before we feel pain. Don’t wait until you hear the whistle; see your chiropractor today to avoid getting hit by the pain train. Chiropractic was founded on science, philosophy and art, and is a careful blend of these three influences. Chiropractors are specifically educated and trained to identify and correct subluxation. Your nervous system controls and coordinates everything in your body. Every joint, muscle, organ, and every cell in your body is under the control of your nervous system. Your spinal cord is actually part of your brain with no breaks or gaps that separate your brain from your spinal cord. Your peripheral nerves (nerves outside of the spinal column) are an extension of your spinal cord allowing control of every millimeter of your body. Every second, thousands of messages travel along your nerves allowing your brain to communicate with your body and your body to communicate with your brain through your spinal cord and peripheral nerves. Your brain and your spinal column are so important that God protected and encased it with bone. Your skull (cranium) protects your brain and the bones that make up the bumps on your back (vertebrae) protect your spinal cord. Movement is essential for life and health, and to promote this movement your spine has 24 movable vertebrae. These vertebrae are supposed to move, to flex side to side, and to rotate. When your vertebrae flex or rotate themselves out of position sometimes they get stuck that way. This is called subluxation, misalignment, or mal-position. When this happens your vertebrae can pinch (or compress your nerves) and cause many unwanted symptoms such as: headaches, digestive system issues, sciatica, joint problems, etc. That is because your nervous system controls and coordinates everything in your body. What causes subluxation? The most common causes are trauma, car accidents, slip-and-falls, sports injuries, and even the birthing process – pulling and twisting the baby’s head at the time of delivery. Some other things that can cause subluxation are overuse (repetitive movements), misuse, any kind of stress, poor nutrition, or even your posture, sleeping, working, or driving habits. Good habits can lead to subluxation if done too much or incorrectly. Chiropractors are the only profession specifically educated and trained to identify and correct subluxation.
